20 Ways to  be More Environmentally-Friendly

Reduce Waste

Bring your own reusable bags when you go shopping.

Use both sides of each piece of paper before recycling. Scrap Paper
Rules!

Cancel subscriptions to magazine and newspaper you don't read.o

To avoid wasting food, buy only the perishable items you need, and
comp
st what you can't use.

Pack lunches in reusable containers.

Reduce Greenhouse-Gas Emissions

Where possible, walk or take public transportation instead of
driving.

If you have to drive, reduce your idling time by turning off
the car if you are stopped for more than 30 seconds.

When you do drive, increase the fuel efficiency of your vehicle by
driving the speed limit (driving faster burns more fuel).

Avoid using a remote car starter.

Reduce Energy Use

Install a programmable thermostat in your home to save energy
and lower heating bills. It's simple and once set up, there's no
additional programming.

Conserve energy - and extend the shelf-life of your clothing - by
washing and rinsing clothes in cold water. There are some good
"cold water" detergents to choose from now.

Replace incandescent lights with energy-saving compact
fluorescent light bulbs.

Turn your water heater off or turn the temperature down when
you go on vacation.

Buy ENERGY STAR-rated appliances for maximum
efficiency. Take advantage of any Federal Government
ecoENERGY Retrofit Grants to make your home more
energy-efficient - and save money every year thereafter.

Apply weather-stripping around all exterior doors and all windows.

Reduce Water Use

Conserve water in the bathroom and kitchen by not running
the taps and collect water you do run for plants or pets.

Only run your dishwasher when it's full.

Replace your toilet with a low-flow or dual flush model, or
place a brick in the water tank.

Check pipes, toilets and taps for leaks and fix them immediately.
