The Story of An Idea

The 'Inspiration' for an On Line Media Adventure came from two places. The First Place
was the Thought that such an Enterprise would be [potentially] an Exciting Learning
and Giving Experience. And, the Second Place was a Dissatisfaction with 'Local Media' -
Print and Otherwise.

In the first instance, our Idea was to provide a 21^st Century Service to the People who Live
and/or Visit [Physically or Virtually] 'The Island'. As well, it was, and is, our Hope to
Engage Other People in a Co-Creative Process of Learning and Development - Individual
and Collective, Social and Technical .

In the second case, our Thought was all about 'Doing More' than the existing Media,
at Presenting or Reflecting 'The Island's' Diversity - Physical, Social and Cultural .
And, furthermore, doing so by Electronically offering {which implies, among other things,
greater Timeliness or Immediacy} Information [News, Weather and Community Events],
Education [Academic, Technical and Cultural] and Entertainment [Audio, Video and
Text].

We are aware that while Honorable our Goals are Lofty, and, if nothing else, will require
Dedication[Focus,Energy and Enthusiasm] on the part of a Number of Like-Minded
People. We are, however, hopeful that over time such People will come forward and offer
their Time and Talents to this Adventure!

This Enterprise is Not intended as a Commercial [that is Profit-Oriented] Venture
- although it could easily be so. We are intent on pursuing the Opportunity of Using
the Internet and various Computer-Based Technologies to Create, Develop and Broad-
cast the Electronic Version of a Non-Profit Community Radio & Television 'Station'!

While we are on the topic of Money, it is important to note that the financing of this
Adventure is entirely "on-our-dime". What this means is that All of the Computer
Equipment and "Broadcast Accessories" [software & hardware], the High-Speed
Satellite Hook-up Equipment and Monthly Internet Service Fees are all being paid
for by Us - 'The Founders' {Shelley &Joe}. These expenses are, as some of you can
imagine, Substantial! It is our Hope, therefore, that within two years we will Qualify
for Grant Monies [Capital Funding] to help defray/offset some of the on-going Costs
of Operation.

The Primary Goal of Our 'Station' will be to serve the needs and wants of the People
of Manitoulin Island. Size of Enterprise and Profit are often seen as the measures of
Commercial Success, in our case, however, Success will be both a Quantitative
Measurement of 'Listener-Viewer-Reader-Ship', and a Qualitative Measurement
of the 'Perceived Benefit' attributed to our 'Broadcasts'!

Accordingly, we Hope to establish our Qualifications for the Capital Funding Monies,
mentioned previously, based upon our Broadcast Record; that is, the Listener-
Viewer-Reader-Ship and the Perceived Benefit or Community Evalution of the
Contribution of our Work..
