Our Feet are Amazing
- one of nature's Marvels!
Each foot packs an incredible
amount of anatomical material
into a relatively small area.In addition
to a
network of blood vessels and nerves, the foot includes ~
26 bones
33 joints
100 muscles, tendons and
ligaments

However,
the complexity of the foot's anatomical
structure, coupled with the
enormous daily demands
we place on it, cause it to be one of our body's
most
vulnerable parts -
susceptible to chronic problems and acute injury. In
addition,
the disruption to our daily life and our sense of well-being, as well
as, the overall
inconvenience caused by foot-related difficulties, make it mandatory
that we give
our feet Special, Daily
{Lifelong} Consideration
and Care!
Contrary to the above,
most of us take our feet for-granted!
- when what we
should be doing is 'Pampering
Them'!! The kind of 'Special-Care'
referred to
here falls into two
main
categories~
First,
there is
Hygiene and Maintenance.
Hygiene involves keeping
our feet Clean and Dry [the
use of a good Soap and
foot Powder is
suggested];
while Maintenance
focuses mainly on keeping our Toenails
properly Trimmed [nails should be cut straight across and not too close
to the toes themselves] and
our skin Supple and Healthy
[the use of
Creams/Lotions is
certainly advisable for
people who suffer from dry
and peeling skin and/or cracked skin on their heels].
Second, there is the fitting and wearing of Proper
Footwear - this
involes both Socks and 'Shoes'.
Socks that are too tight
or loose and
'Shoes'
that are more fashionable than Comfortable and Supportive
are the downfall of many
people. Chronic
Rubbing/Chafing and
Constriction are two things that are responsible for many foot-related
problems.
Finally,
it is important to note that diseases that affect other parts of our
body can have an impact on the health of our feet. Diabetes is a good
example, over time this disease will affect the suffer's circulation
[especially
to the extremities],
and thereby cause difficulties for the
feet. In such cases,
it is important that the person seeks, in a timely fashion, the advice
of a
physician/specialist, in order to avoid any possible
complications.
As with the rest of our
body, the feet are Amazing
pieces-of-work and can,
with proper Care and
Consideration {as per the preceding}, 'afford us a
lifetime of use', but we need to treat them in accordance with their
Importance, that is, Essential!!
