More Random Green Thoughts ... For Everyone

Energy .. Electricity

Generally speaking, the 'Traditional' Sources   of our Electricity are Not Environmentally-Friendly!  [Hydro ~ Habitat Destruction and Coal ~
Pollution
].
So, the Reduction of our Use and Reliance on Electrically-Powered
Products
would be Helpful!!

The Watchword here then is Reduce .. Reduce Usage  or Reduce Reliance on
Electrically-Powered Devices, Appliances and other Products. The issue is how
do we do this without disrupting our lives or lifestyles and incurring additional/
inordinant living-costs!? There are some simple, but effective ways of Reducing
our Use of Electricity without either major inconvenience or cost!  Below is a list
of some of what might be called the 'tactics-of-reduction' that both
aid our desire
and efforts to Save Our Home - the Earth -
and could save us money
[immediately and longer term].

I do not know about you, but being able to benefit both myself, in my personal
life [money savings], and as a inhabitant of this planet [slowing/reversing of
climate change
] is
about as Good as I can imagine!

Here then are a few simple suggestions that will achieve personal savings,
demonstrate greater social consciousness and responsibility, and aid in what might
be called the 'fight for our lives'! ~

Lower/Regulate Thermostats ~  This is particularly important in regards to
our Water Heaters  and Electric Heat. The latter can be aided by/through the use
of a Programmable Thermostat.

Raise/Regulate Thermostats ~ This is in relation to Air-Conditioners, which
are a hugh 'user'  of Electricity. If all users raised their thermostat settings between
4-6 degrees Celsius, the realized savings would be significant. Beyond this, if the
'definition' of when the Air-Conditioner was necessary for actual physical comfort
were to be
critically-examined, use would, no doubt, be lowered.

Schedule/Plan the use of the Stove Oven ~ This would result in a number of
foods/meal items being cooked concurrently or serially. This would cut down on the
necessity of repeatingly bringing the applince to temperature.

Dry Clothes on a Clothesline ~ Indoors or Out, this would lower Electrical
Consumption markedly and would, no doubt, add to the life and the color vibrancy
of many clothes items.

Refrain from Using Dry-Cycle  ~ This pertains to Dishwashers, where the
dry-cycle not only uses a great deal of electricity, but also is unnecessary, because
the dishes will air-dry(!), if the door is left open.

Replace Traditional Light Bulbs ~ The new Long-Life, High-Efficiency
Light Bulbs
are an easy, and ultimately economical way to Illuminate our lives.
The variety of wattages available  [for example 'trilights] is growing and makes
their use much more convenient.

Turn All Devices Off ~ The number of Electrical Devices that are left
'partially' on is amazing [just about anything with a remote falls into this
category]. As well, when something is not in-use [ala a television or a radio or
a computer or even a lighting fixture] turn it off!
